Kumasi CBD Transformed into a Cemetery as Business Activities Halted

By Isaac Okyere

The central business district of Adum in Kumasi has been transformed into a virtual cemetery as business activities came to a standstill on Thursday in observance of the final funeral rites of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom II.

The directive to halt business activities was issued by the Manhyia Palace, and the Ashanti region has come to a standstill to pay last respects to the deceased queen.

The usually bustling streets of Adum were eerily quiet, a stark contrast to the normal hustle and bustle that characterizes this major commercial hub.

Traders and business owners have heeded the palace’s directive, closing their shops and stalls to allow the people of Ashanti to mourn the passing of their beloved queen.

The final funeral rites, which have entered their fourth day, are being held at the Manhyia Palace, and the Ashanti kingdom has come together to pay their last respects to Nana Konadu Yiadom II.

The decision to halt business activities is a testament to the respect and admiration the people of Ashanti have for their queen.

This somber atmosphere in Kumasi’s CBD is expected to persist until the funeral rites are concluded, as the people of Ashanti pay their respects to their beloved queen.
