Government To Map Up Strategy To Absorb Excess eggs in the poultry industry – Agric Ministry

The NDC government, under its Feed Ghana program, has introduced the Nkoko Nketenkete Policy, which aims to expand the poultry industry and its production within the country.

In line with this initiative, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture has undertaken a working visit alongside the Feed Ghana Executives to gather firsthand information on the progress of agriculture in the nation.

Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture and Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, Hon. John Dumelo, during the visit noted that there are numerous challenges facing the poultry industry hence his decision to visit Dormaa Ahenkro, one of the production hubs for poultry, to obtain firsthand information on the industry and determine how the government can best provide support.

He acknowledged that the challenges faced by poultry farmers are extensive, including the high prices of poultry feeds, and pledged to work towards reducing production costs.

Furthermore, he mentioned that the government would develop a strategy to absorb the surplus of eggs in the market, particularly during seasons of excessive egg production, in order to alleviate the marketing burden on farmers and enhance production.

The Dormaa West District Chief Executive, Honorable Stephen Azorba Awuni, underscored the significance of Dormaa Ahenkro as the central hub of the poultry industry.

He noted that the Nkoko Nketenkete Policy will greatly benefit the constituents of Dormaa East, Central, and West by facilitating the expansion of poultry production.

He further stated that the residents within the Dormaa enclave are prepared and eagerly anticipating the government’s implementation of the policy, which includes the distribution of day-old chicks to farmers. This initiative is expected to significantly boost the poultry industry and its production, thereby enhancing the local economy.

Mr. Ibrahim Musah, the Chief Executive Officer of AM Unity Farms and the recipient of the 2015 National Best Farmer award, as well as a distinguished poultry farmer in Dormaa, has expressed his gratitude for the government’s Nkoko Nketenkete Policy.

He stated that they are anticipating the swift implementation of this policy by the government to facilitate the expansion of their farms and provide employment opportunities for the youth, thereby contributing to the reduction of the unemployment rate in the country.

Furthermore, he highlighted that the high interest rates are deterring farmers from expanding their operations hence he urged the government to engage with financial institutions to lower the interest rates to a single digit, thereby enabling farmers to secure the necessary loans for the expansion of their farms and the industry.
