NDC’s Role in Bawku Crisis Exposed: NPP

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has blamed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for orchestrating several tribal issues in Bawku, which has led to the current unprecedented crisis.

Speaking at a press conference, Lawyer Justin Kodua Frimpong, General Secretary of the NPP, expressed deep concern over the situation.

He recalled that prior to the 2024 elections, the NDC made various pronouncements, citing tribalism and religious divisions, in a desperate attempt to win elections.

The NPP General Secretary noted that the then candidate, John Mahama, made several pronouncements, accusing the government led by Nana Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of failing to resolve the Bawku crisis. Mahama claimed that the crisis would be resolved when the NDC comes to power.

According to him, the Bawku crisis is extremely worrying, with human lives being lost daily, innocent students being injured, and citizens losing their lives simply because of their tribe or location. “This should serve as a caution to the NDC government that politics should not be led by propaganda and misrepresentation.”

Justin Frimpong emphasized the need for politicians to tread cautiously when dealing with issues of chieftaincy, religion, and ethnicity.

The NPP is willing to engage in dialogue with President Mahama to find a lasting solution to the Bawku conflict. The party is ready to work together to address the issue once and for all if Mahama calls for dialogue.
