Ga State Tensions Rise as Kwabenya Queen Mother Accuses Gbese Mantse of Fueling Chieftaincy Dispute

Tensions are running high in the Ga State as the Queen Mother of Kwabenya, Naa Korkoi Dugbatey II, has leveled serious accusations against the Gbese Mantse, Nii Ayi Bonte II, alleging that he is behind the ongoing chieftaincy dispute over the Ga Mantse Stool.

Speaking at a press conference in Kwabenya, Naa Korkoi Dugbatey II firmly reaffirmed King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II as the legitimate Ga Mantse, urging stakeholders and the general public to disregard any attempts to undermine his authority.

“The Ga State must stand united. King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II is the only rightful occupant of the Ga Mantse Stool, and any efforts to sow discord will not be tolerated,” she declared.

The Ga State has been embroiled in a long-standing chieftaincy wrangle within the Ga Traditional Council, and this latest development adds another layer of tension to the situation.

The Gbese Mantse, Nii Ayi Bonte II, has been accused of peddling lies to cause unnecessary tension and confusion in relation to the ongoing Ga Mantse chieftaincy dispute.

Naa Korkoi Dugbatey II warned Nii Ayi Bonte II to stop attacking the integrity of King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II as Ga Mantse, cautioning that failure to do so would incur her wrath.

This is not the first time the Gbese Mantse has been involved in high-profile traditional activities, as he was seen commiserating with the Ga Traditional Council over the passing of the Paramount Queenmother of the Ga State, Naa Dedei Omaedru III, in 2023.²

The Queen Mother’s call for unity and support for King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II comes at a time when the Ga State is navigating complex traditional dynamics. With the Ga Mantse having recently elevated six stools to paramountcies, including the Gbese Mantse’s, the situation remains delicate.
