C/R: PARLIAMENTARY SELECT COMMITTEE ON EDUCATION REQUESTS TAX WAIVER FOR PRIVATE UNIVERSITIES

Parliamentary Select Committee on Education has urged government to support private universities by given them some tax waiver on educational equipment import into the country.

According to the Chairman for the Committee who doubles as Member of Parliament for Akatsi Constituency Hon Peter Kwesi Nortsu-Kotoe, says, the government can waive taxes on educational materials and equipment for private universities since they also support reduce the pleasure that might have come on the government if all Ghanaian children attend public university.

The chairman made this known at KAAF University during the Parliamentary Select committee on education visit to the KAAF University, he also urged the government to complete all uncompleted projects in the various senior High schools to help eliminate the double track system from the schools.

Meanwhile, the Chancellor of KAAF University, Mr. Micheal Aidoo also urged the the government to review his free tuition fees for first Year university students to favour every child who would be entering university.

He added that, government must consider sitting on the round table with the directors from various private university and share their fair idea on the policy.

Finally, the vice chancellor for KAAF University, Prof. Herbert Kwabla Dei urged the committee to table the challenges the private universities are facing and support government can give them for them to be able to also educate Ghanians .
