Minority MPs Petition CHRAJ, OSP, and CID to Investigate Sammy Gyamfi Over Dollar Gift

The Minority in Parliament has taken a decisive step by petitioning the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Police.

They are calling for a thorough investigation into the conduct of Sammy Gyamfi, who serves as the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board and National Communications Officer of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

A video that went viral over the weekend of May 10th to 12th, 2025, has sparked this investigation. The footage shows Sammy Gyamfi handling large sums of foreign currency, which has raised serious concerns about potential breaches of the law.

According to Hon. Nurideen Muhammad Mumuni, a member of Parliament for Nalerigu/Gambaga constituency and part of the Minority, Gyamfi’s actions may have violated several codes of conduct and laws of Ghana.

The Minority alleges that Sammy Gyamfi has potentially breached the Foreign Exchange Act (Act 723) handling of foreign currency without proper authorization may contravene this act.

Hon. Nurideen Muhammad Mumuni emphasized the need for a thorough investigation, stating, “We want these institutions of state, who are mandated to do some of these things, to find out the source of the money.”

The Minority believes that if Gyamfi has not committed any offense, he should be cleared, but if he has, appropriate action should be taken.
