Traders in Kejetia Market Urge Otumfuo to Appoint New Board

A group of traders in Kumasi’s Kejetia Market, known as the Alliance for Change, has petitioned the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to appoint a new board of directors to oversee the market’s operations.

The group believes that the current state of the market is a result of poor management and direction from the previous board and management team.

According to Anastasia Bonsu, spokesperson for the Alliance for Change, the traders are calling for a complete overhaul of the board’s structure and personnel.

They argue that fresh minds and new leadership are needed to turn around the market’s fortunes.

The group has expressed skepticism about the possible reappointment of Amoamahene Nana Agyenim Boateng, who represented the Asantehene on the previous board.

They have challenged him to publicly demonstrate his achievements, if any, to justify his reappointment.

The Alliance for Change believes that Otumfuo has access to a pool of intellectuals, chiefs, and administrative staff who could bring new ideas and expertise to the market’s management.

They also advocate for the application of the principle of transfer in labor practice, which would promote dynamism and diversity in leadership.

The traders are seeking creative leaders who can think outside the box and unlock the market’s potential, rather than those who have a legacy of accumulated debt and poor management.
