Okada Riders in Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality Appeal for Age Limit Review

The Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipal Okada riders Association has made a plea to authorities to reconsider the minimum age requirement for commercial motorcycle and tricycle operators.
The current proposal, put forth by Transport Minister Joseph Bukari Nikpe, sets the minimum age at 25 years.
In an interview, some Okada riders expressed their concerns about the potential impact of the new regulation on young people in the municipality.
They urged authorities to consider reducing the age limit to 20 or 21 years, citing the need to alleviate unemployment among young adults.
The riders argue that Okada riding serves as a viable source of income for many young people who struggle to find employment.
By allowing younger individuals to engage in this profession, authorities can help foster financial independence and entrepreneurship among the youth.
Mr. Anthony Fiifi, Chairman of the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipal Okada riders Association, emphasized that Okada riding not only provides transportation but also economic empowerment for many riders.
Riders believe that lowering the age limit can help reduce unemployment rates and improve livelihoods among young people, by considering their proposal, authorities can take a significant step towards empowering the youth and promoting economic growth.
The riders are appealing for a review of the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 LI 2180, to permit younger individuals to operate commercial motorcycles and tricycles.
The association’s appeal highlights the need for innovative solutions to address unemployment and economic challenges faced by young people in the municipality.
