EASTERN REGIONAL MINISTER VISITS GHANA WATER COMPANY LIMITED

The Eastern Regional Minister, Honourable Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, has paid a working visit to the regional office of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWL) and key water supply facilities serving the Koforidua Metropolis.

During the visit, Ing. Paul Akpanya, the Eastern Regional Chief Manager of GWL, welcomed the Minister and her entourage, which included the Regional Coordinating Director. He expressed the appreciation of the management and staff for this significant visit.

 

Ing. Akpanya provided a detailed presentation on the company’s operations within the region, highlighting ongoing efforts to increase water production at the Nsawam Water Treatment Plant and plans to directly supply water to the new Somanya Government Hospital and surrounding areas from the Akorley Booster Station.

Honourable Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey commended the management and staff of GWL for their dedication to providing potable water to residents.

She emphasized the need for stronger collaboration between the company and the Regional Coordinating Council and urged management to strive for even greater achievements.

The Minister challenged GWL to enhance the accessibility, reliability, and quality of water supply in the region.

Expressing concern over the detrimental impact of illegal mining activities (galamsay) on the company’s operations, Honourable Adjei Awatey assured that the government and her office are firmly committed to combating this menace.

She revealed that ten excavators have been seized so far in the ongoing fight against galamsay.

The Minister’s itinerary included visits to the Densuano old Water Works, the Filter House responsible for treating raw water from the Densu River and spring water sources from the Okume and Suhyen mountains, and concluded at the Bukunor Plant.
