
The Suhum Okanta community, in collaboration with the Municipal Health Directorate and Marvic Global Foundation, has launched an Adolescent Club aimed at tackling the rising issues of teenage pregnancy and substance abuse among local youth.
Nana Kweku Baafour Okanta III, Chief of Suhum Okanta, expressed concern over the alarming rate of substance abuse and teenage pregnancy in the community, emphasizing the need for collective action.
The Adolescent Club’s primary objective is to provide a supportive environment where young people can access guidance, education, and resources to make informed decisions about their lives.
The Objective, aims at Reducing Teenage Pregnancy, Provide sex education, promote contraceptive use, and prevent early marriages, Combat Substance Abuse, Educate youth about the risks of substance abuse and provide support for those struggling with addiction and Empower Youth to Foster a sense of self-worth, confidence, and responsibility among young people.
The Marvic Global Foundation has pledged to support the initiative, working closely with the Municipal Health Directorate to address these pressing issues.
Ekow Sammie Bondzie, Communications Director of Marvic Foundation, emphasized the organization’s commitment to collaborating with local authorities to find solutions.
Research suggests that effective strategies to prevent teenage pregnancy include Comprehensive Sex Education, Providing accurate and age-appropriate information about sexual health and relationships, Access to Contraceptives, suring that young people have access to reliable and affordable contraceptive methods.
Parental Involvement Encouraging parents to engage with their children and guide them in making informed decisions.
Suhum Municipal Health Director, Fredrick Kwame Ofosu, urged parents to take an active role in guiding their children and protecting them from negative influences.
By working together, the community can create a supportive environment that promotes healthy choices and positive outcomes for young people.
