A shocking investigation report has been submitted to Parliament by the Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, regarding the Electricity Company of Ghana’s (ECG) missing containers at Tema Harbour.
The report uncovers a staggering discrepancy, alleging that an approved GHC 200 million for material purchases ultimately resulted in a loss exceeding GHC 8 billion.
According to the report, some of the materials from the 1,300 missing containers were sold to aluminum factories and melted into iron rods.
The investigation has led to arrests, including Chinese nationals and local citizens.
Minister Jinapor has assured that the Ministry will oversee the sale of the recovered iron rods and has pledged to hold all culprits accountable.
He has also committed to addressing and preventing future incidents within the energy sector.
This development comes after the Minister’s inspection of 2,500 uncleared ECG containers at Tema Port, which revealed significant lapses in resource management and inter-agency coordination.
The Minister has emphasized the need for efficient management of public resources to advance the country’s developmental objectives.
