A shocking case of child abuse has come to light in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region, where a couple has been arrested for allegedly chaining their 9-year-old son in a bush for two days.
The suspects, Bismarck Odoi, 35, and his wife, Saviour Arthur, 33, were taken into custody by the Awutu Bereku District Police Command.
According to police sources, the couple admitted to chaining their son, claiming that he was “too stubborn” and that they saw no other option.
The victim was rescued by a woman who was searching for firewood in the bush at Gomoa Nkwantanan.
The woman, who has not been named, found the boy chained to a tree and quickly sought assistance to free him.
In an interview with the media, James Mesanh, a resident of Gomoa Nkwantanan, recounted how the woman brought the boy to the chief’s palace with chains and a padlock still attached to his legs.
Mesanh stated that upon interrogation, the woman explained that she had seen the boy chained to the tree while searching for firewood and had immediately sought help to rescue him.
The 9-year-old victim revealed that his father had accused him of being late to school and had threatened to punish him and his junior brother.
The boy stated that upon returning from school, his father took him into the bush and chained him.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage and concern for the welfare of the child. The police are investigating the matter, and the couple is expected to face charges for child abuse.
