Rainstorm Wreaks Havoc in Ofosu Community, Leaving One Injured and Many Displaced

A devastating rainstorm swept through the Ofosu community in the Nkwanta South district of the Oti Region on Wednesday afternoon, causing widespread destruction and leaving one person injured.

The storm, which was accompanied by heavy winds, caught residents off guard, resulting in chaos as strong gusts tore through the area. Several structures, including classrooms at the Ofosu M/A Basic School, were severely damaged, with roofs ripped off and windows shattered.

Many residents have been displaced, and essential services, including electricity, have been disrupted. The community has been plunged into darkness, affecting businesses and homes.

Christian Ahiavi, headteacher of Ofosu M/A Basic School, witnessed the storm firsthand and expressed his shock and fear. “The combination of heavy rain and strong winds ripped off the roofs of buildings, including the school structures where children gather for their education,” he said.

Ahiavi voiced deep concern for the safety of both students and staff, devastated by the damage. He has called on the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), the Nkwanta South assembly, and well-meaning individuals to offer urgent assistance.

Resident Aliu Amadu narrated the difficulties the students are facing since the storm destroyed some of the school buildings. “Since the rainstorm, there is no light in the community, and it has affected our businesses and homes,” he added.

The community is in dire need of support to recover from the devastating effects of the storm.
