Good News: Ghana Police Service to Lift Media Ban, Enhance Transparency- IGP Yohuno

In a significant move, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno has announced plans to lift the ban on police Public Relation Officers engaging with the media, a restriction imposed by former IGP George Akuffo Dampare.

This decision aims to foster a stronger relationship between the Ghana Police Service and the public, promoting transparency and accountability.

Speaking at a workshop for Public Relations Officers (PROs) on Thursday, March 20, IGP Yohuno emphasized the importance of public cooperation in combating rising crime.

He stressed that effective policing requires strong engagement between law enforcement and the community, highlighting the need for transparency and trust-building.

“No society can effectively combat crime without the support and collaboration of its people,” IGP Yohuno stated. He assured that all Regional PROs and Police Affairs offices would be reactivated and revamped to facilitate better interactions with both the public and the media.

The move is expected to enhance transparency, accountability, and public trust in the Ghana Police Service. By reactivating regional police affairs offices, the police administration aims to meet the evolving demands of the public and media partners, ultimately fostering a safer and crime-free environment.
