Finance Committee Chairman Defends 2025 Budget Amid Criticism

Chairman of the Finance Committee of Parliament, Isaac Adongo, has pushed back against criticism of the 2025 budget, arguing that it includes innovative measures to support education and healthcare.

Hon. Adongo, who is also the Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central, highlighted the uncapping of the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GetFund) and the National Health Insurance Levy as key initiatives to ensure sufficient allocations to these critical sectors.

According to Adongo, these measures demonstrate the government’s commitment to prioritizing education and healthcare, unlike the previous administration’s “misplaced priority spending” that led to economic challenges.

By uncapping GetFund and the National Health Insurance Levy, the government aims to provide adequate funding for its priorities in these areas.

Adongo’s defense of the budget comes in response to criticism from his Ranking Member, who had expressed concerns about the budget’s provisions.

However, Adongo’s reassurance suggests that the government is confident in its fiscal plan for 2025.
