Budget 2025 Under Fire: Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam Raises Concerns Over Discrepancies

Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, Ranking Member on the Finance Committee of Parliament, has expressed strong reservations about the 2025 Budget presented by the Finance Minister.

During his commentary on the budget on the floor of parliament Thursday, March 18th, Dr. Amin Adam revealed discrepancies in the allocation and appropriation of funds for various initiatives, including free tuition fees for first-year tertiary students and free sanitary pads.

The discrepancies, Dr. Amin Adam argued, raise significant doubts about the government’s commitment to alleviating the suffering of Ghanaians.

He specifically pointed out inconsistencies in the allocation and appropriation of funds for the “big push” and “agriculture for economic transformation” initiatives.

Dr. Amin Adam’s concerns are not isolated, as the Minority Caucus in Parliament has also criticized the government’s economic projections in the 2025 Budget Statement, arguing that the fiscal outlook lacks credibility.

Dr. Amin Adam also questioned the government’s proposed 24-hour economy policy, suggesting that it lacks a clear implementation plan and sufficient funding.

He emphasized that without budgetary support, the policy would be meaningless, and launching it without funds would delay any real progress until 2026 at the earliest.
