Traditional Leader Calls for Action Against Forest Indiscipline

Nana Ofori Ahenkan II, Chief of Sefwi Bonzian and Kontihene of Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Council, has urged the Western North Regional Minister, Hon. Wilbert Petty Bretum, to take immediate action against the rampant indiscipline in the forest reserves of the Western North Region.

The traditional leader expressed concern over the alarming rate of illegal activities in the forest, including logging and harvesting of lumber, which he believes is causing irreparable damage to the environment.

He emphasized the need for the minister to ensure that only individuals with genuine permits and documents are allowed to work in the forest.

Nana Ahenkan II also appealed to the minister to complete the construction of the Bonzian and Juaboso town roads, which were left unfinished before the elections.

Additionally, he drew attention to the deplorable state of the Benchmaa barrier to Juaboso Nkwanta road, calling on the government to take urgent action to address the issue.

The traditional leader reminded the minister of the promises made by Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang during her visit to Sefwi Bonzian, including the development of the Bonzian waterfall and the conversion of Nana Ntaadu Senior High School into a public school.

In response, Hon. Wilbert Petty Bretum assured Nana Ahenkan II that he would take immediate action to address the indiscipline in the forest and ensure that only genuine individuals are allowed to work there.

The minister also promised to consider the traditional leader’s requests and called for his support and guidance in serving the region.
