UMB Pays Courtesy Visit to Asantehene, Commiserates on Passing of Asantehemaa

Universal Merchant Bank (UMB) has paid a courtesy visit to His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, to commiserate with him and the Asante Kingdom following the passing of the Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III.

The bank’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Philip Oti-Mensah, led a delegation of senior executives to extend condolences and support for the mourning rites.

During the visit, Dr. Oti-Mensah expressed the bank’s profound sympathy to the Asantehene and the royal family, noting that the passing of the Asantehemaa is a great loss not only to Asanteman but to the entire nation.

“The passing of the Asantehemaa is a great loss not only to Asanteman but to the entire nation,” he said.

“As an indigenous Ghanaian bank with over 50 years of history, standing with Asanteman in such a time as this is not only a reflection of our deep respect for Otumfuo’s leadership, but also of our shared commitment to the prosperity of our people.” He added.

Dr. Oti-Mensah was accompanied by senior executives, including Victor Brijuu, Divisional Head 2, Edem Knight-Tay, Head of Corporate Communications, Victor Ampomah, Acting Zonal Head, Ashanti and Gabriel Nyantakyi, Adum Branch Manager.

The Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, passed away at the age of 98 on Thursday, August 7, 2025.

She was celebrated for her remarkable leadership, wise counsel, and motherly influence in the affairs of the Ashanti Kingdom. Preparations are underway for her royal funeral rites.

UMB’s commiseration visit underscores the institution’s deep cultural ties and its recognition of the pivotal role of traditional authority in national life.

The bank’s gesture demonstrates its commitment to building strong relationships with key stakeholders, including traditional leaders and institutions.

“We stand with Asanteman in this difficult time, and we pray that the Almighty God grants the family and the entire Asante Kingdom the strength and peace to navigate this challenging period,” Dr. Oti-Mensah said.

By paying a courtesy visit to the Asantehene, UMB has demonstrated its respect for the traditional institution and its commitment to supporting the community.

The bank’s gesture is a testament to its strong cultural ties and its recognition of the importance of traditional authority in Ghanaian society.
