Adidome Health Kiosk Project Launched to Boost Community and Healthcare

The Wellness Bridge Initiative (WBI) has launched the Adidome Health Kiosk Project, a community-driven initiative aimed at addressing the rising cases of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as hypertension and diabetes in the Volta Region.

The project was unveiled by Togbe Kwasinyi Kakaklolo Agyeman V, Executive Director of WBI and Chief of Adidome, who described it as “a candle of hope” for the community.

Some Key Features of the Health Kiosk Project health Awareness eduaction campaigns to educate the public about NCDs and their prevention, Free screenings for blood pressure and blood sugar, with referrals for further diagnosis and treatment when necessary, Promoting dietary literacy using local foods, emphasizing the importance of healthy eating and Community fitness programs for all ages, with a focus on seniors.

The launch event highlighted the alarming statistics surrounding hypertension and diabetes in Ghana.

According to Togbe Kwasinyi Kakaklolo Agyeman V, hypertension tops all adult hospital admissions and is associated with a significant proportion of overall adult deaths in hospitals.

The Chief emphasized the need for preventive health solutions, citing the increasing number of fatalities and disabilities caused by these diseases among the younger population.

The project has received support from the Central Tongu District Directorate of the Ghana Health Services (GHS). The Executive Director emphasized the need to deepen collaboration with GHS at the national level as the project expands.

Dr. Elikplim Kwabla Apetorgbor, Commissioner and Volta Representative to the NDPC, praised the project as innovative and encouraged development partners to initiate similar projects across the Volta Region.

Togbe Kwasinyi Kakaklolo Agyeman V appealed to international donors, government agencies, corporate institutions, and philanthropists to support the expansion of this wellness initiative nationwide, highlighting its potential to provide solutions to the UN SDG3.

The Health Kiosk Project aims to serve as a hub for free health screenings, promoting early detection and prevention of NCDs.²
