
Former President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has delivered a keynote presentation at the Graduation Lecture for Course 33 participants at the National Defence College in Abuja, Nigeria.
The event brought together nationals from across Africa, South America, and Asia.
In his presentation, President Akufo-Addo emphasized the importance of strengthening institutions for good governance in Africa. He highlighted the continent’s complex path to stronger institutions, citing the need for Tighter oversight to Robust monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to ensure accountability and transparency, as well as ensuring Digital transparency to Leveraging technology to promote openness and accessibility in governance.
To enhance Inclusive nation-building, Nana Addo emphasizes the importance of Fostering a sense of belonging and participation among all citizens.
He urged Afeican leaders to Implement sound financial management practices to promote economic stability.
President Akufo-Addo also shared his experience in promoting capacity building in defence and security, noting that Ghana had taken steps to develop its own defence capabilities, including the commissioning of the College of Defence Studies in 2023.The College was later granted a Presidential Charter in 2024, making it an autonomous National Defence University.
The National Defence College of Nigeria plays a critical role in developing future strategic leaders equipped with the knowledge and analytical skills necessary to navigate complex defence and security environments.
