KsTU Appeals For Multifunctional Sewing Machines For University

The Leadership of Kumasi Technical University has fervently called on government and all major stakeholders in the textile Industry to assist in the retooling the school’s textile laboratory to provide adequate practical training for students.
Head of Department for Fashion Design and Textile Studies at the Kumasi Technical University, Dr. Solomon Marfo Ayesu, who speaks in an interview with Oyerepa news says the move will aid accelerate boost of youth capacity in the country.
He expressed this entreaty in an interview at the Fashion Expression 2025 event which was held on Friday, 8th August 2025 to commemorate the school’s 40 years fashion stint.
He stated emphatically that the school’s textile department needs a modern machine that can simultaneously sew and knit all forms of materials, including slippery jersey fabrics.
Additionally, he appealed for additional computers, saying that the current student population has outgrown the number of computers available in the school’s laboratory.
According to him, all the previous governments have, unfortunately, offered very little support to the textile Industry.
Meanwhile, the students have described the event as a life-changing platform for them to exhibit their potentials and market themselves to the world. Some of them disclosed that they have received plaudits from high-profile industry persons and also attracted new clients.
Describing the assignment as challenge, they noted that the feedback has set a new desire for them to strive for more success.
