President John Dramani Mahama has launched the Phase II of the Blekusu Coastal Protection Project in Agavedzi, Ketu South Municipality.
The project aims to protect coastal communities from tidal waves and erosion, and will involve the construction of 37 armor rock groynes and land reclamation along an 8km stretch of coastline.
The project, to be executed by Messrs Amandi Holdings Limited, will not only safeguard the coastline but also transform livelihoods with modern fish markets, cold storage, processing facilities, drying areas, a car park, lorry station, and a proper waste system. The project is expected to benefit communities such as Agavedzi, Solakope, Amutinu, and Adina.
Speaking at the commissioning President Mahama reaffirmed his commitment to climate resilience and community protection, highlighting the success of Phase I of the project, which was completed in 2015.
The Phase II project is a testament to his visionary leadership and prioritization of the needs of coastal communities.
The Regional Minister Hon. James Gunu expressed gratitude to President Mahama for prioritizing the project, describing it as a lifeline for coastal communities.
The Minister emphasized that the project will not only protect the coastline but also improve the livelihoods of residents through modern infrastructure and facilities.
The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including the Chairman of the Council of State, Members of Parliament, Ministers of State, and traditional leaders. The event marks a significant milestone in the efforts to protect and develop coastal communities in the region.
