A tragic incident has occurred in Amenam, a mining community in the Birim North Municipality of the Eastern Region, where a 29-year-old okada rider, Kwaku Eric, was beaten to death by members of the Kotoku task force.
The task force, led by Isaac Asante, allegedly assaulted Kwaku Eric after a heated argument over the treatment of a roasted maize seller.
According to reports, the altercation began when Isaac Asante pushed over the maize seller’s setup after she didn’t respond to his greeting.
Kwaku Eric, who had bought some of the maize, questioned Isaac’s actions, leading to a physical confrontation. Despite being separated by community members, Kwaku Eric was later accosted by Isaac and two others, who assaulted him with guns.
Kwaku Eric was taken to the Abirem Government Hospital, where he died the next day while in a coma. His body has been deposited at the INI mortuary for autopsy and preservation. Isaac Asante has been arrested, but the other two accomplices are still on the run.
The deceased’s father, Baba Moses, has appealed to the government to bring the perpetrators to justice and release his son’s body for burial. The family is seeking justice for Kwaku Eric’s untimely death.
