Anomabo Old Palace Demolished by NADMO

The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) has demolished the old palace in Anomabo, Mfantseman municipality, Central Region, as part of efforts to prevent disasters caused by weak and ancient structures.
The decision to demolish the palace was taken after a letter was submitted to the Anomabo traditional council three years ago, and recent pressure from the municipal assembly to take action due to the collapse of old buildings in Cape Coast.
The acting chief of Anomabo, Nana Baffour, explained that the old palace, built in the 18th century, had developed cracks and was in a weak state, posing a risk to the community. The Anomabo traditional council eventually gave NADMO the go-ahead to demolish the palace.
Nana Baffour noted that a new palace has already been constructed, and the traditional council will now plan what to do with the land.
The Municipal NADMO Director, Christian Yankson, emphasized that it is their duty to demolish old and weak buildings to prevent future disasters, especially during the rainy season.
The demolition of the Anomabo old palace is part of NADMO’s efforts to identify and demolish weak structures in the Mfantseman municipality to prevent accidents and disasters.
