Disunity will ruin NPP’s prospects: Embody patriotism – Prof. Mike Oquaye warns

Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye, a former Speaker of Parliament, has called on New Patriotic Party (NPP) members vying for the flagbearership to demonstrate patriotism.

Speaking at the launch of the Patriotic Institute in Accra, Quaye emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation among party members.

Professor Mike recalled that in 1992, during the flagbearership contest, members of Parliament who had previously served in Parliament and lost the primaries rallied around Professor Adu Boahen.

He noted that there was a spirit of cooperation and camaraderie among them, and throughout the campaign, there were no negative remarks or personal attacks. He therefore called on all NPP members to learn from this example.

Quaye urged flagbearership aspirants to highlight their achievements and contributions to the party, as well as their vision for Ghana if elected. “If we do that, this party will be successful,” he said.

The former Speaker also warned against the dangers of disunity, citing the 1979 election where divisions within the party led to losses. “Anyone who perceives the pathway of division is not working in the interest of the party and must be excused,” he said, emphasizing that such behavior would harm the party’s prospects.
