Ahafo Ano South MP Highlights Neglect in Agricultural Sector as Cause of Economic Woes

Hon. Elvis Osei-Mensah Dapaah, Member of Parliament for Ahafo Ano South West, has attributed Ghana’s economic challenges to the continuous neglect of the agricultural sector.
Speaking in an interview Hon. Dapaah emphasized that the lack of a clear policy guide or legal framework to manage the sector has resulted in inadequate resource allocation, limiting job creation and economic growth.
The Ahafo Ano South District has vast agricultural potential, with major crops including maize, rice, cassava, yam, cocoyam, and plantain.
The district’s fertile lands and favorable climate make it an ideal location for crop cultivation, and with proper management, the sector could significantly contribute to the local economy.
Hon. Dapaah’s comments highlight the need for policymakers to prioritize agriculture and develop effective strategies to support the sector. By investing in agriculture, the government can create jobs, boost economic growth, and improve food security.
Hon. Elvis Osei-Mensah Dapaah was declared the winner of the Ahafo Ano South West parliamentary polls, garnering 16,058 votes against his closest opponent, Abubakar Sadik of the NDC, who secured 15,372 votes. As MP, Hon. Dapaah has emphasized the importance of addressing the challenges facing the agricultural sector to drive economic growth and development.
