By Isaac Okyere

The Ashanti Regional Criminal Investigation Department has arrested a 25-year-old suspect, Emmanuel Boateng, for impersonation and defrauding by false pretenses.

The suspect was apprehended at his hideout in Amangoase, a suburb of Nsuta, after an intelligence-led operation.

ACP Godwin Ahianyo public relation officer of the Ashanti chapter of the police service says, Investigations revealed that Boateng impersonated Mr. Bright Appiah, a registered traditional herbalist and CEO of Nana Kofi Herbal, located in Ntonsu.

According to him, Emmanuel Boateng manipulated videos shared on social media by replacing Mr. Appiah’s original contact numbers with his own numbers, thereby misleading members of the public who sought herbal services.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect has defrauded individuals both locally and internationally, including victims in Ghana, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and other countries.

The Regional Police Command is continuing its investigations and is urging the public to exercise caution when engaging with individuals online.

Members of the public are advised to be vigilant and to verify all contact details before engaging in financial transactions. Suspicious activities should be reported to the nearest police station without delay.

The police are working to ensure that the suspect is brought to justice and that the public is protected from further fraudulent activities.
