The Ghana Police Service has taken a significant step towards enhancing the healthcare needs of its personnel and the community with the commissioning of an ultra-modern police hospital at Patasi in Kumasi, Ashanti Region.
The 50-bed hospital, fully funded by the Police Welfare Scheme, is a testament to the organization’s commitment to the well-being of its officers.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Interior Minister, Hon. Muntaka Mubarak, expressed his deep admiration for the police welfare scheme, describing the hospital as a “life-saving facility” that showcases the power of collective strength, vision, and commitment.
He emphasized that the hospital is a symbol of what can be achieved when unity meets purpose and people take charge of their welfare.
Hon. Mubarak noted that the nation’s development lies not only in the hands of its institutions but also in the hands of the people.
He urged other institutions to draw inspiration from the police service’s self-reliance model, saying, “Let this hospital be a module of other institutions, a beacon of hope that encourages self-reliance for all public sector.”
The Director-General of Welfare at the Police Service, COP Iddi Lansa Seidu, lauded the gesture of police officers for their contribution to the success of the facility.
He emphasized that the hospital will not only benefit police personnel and their dependents but also the nation at large. The facility, which was initiated in 2015 under the leadership of former Ashanti Regional Police Commander, Mr. Nathan Kofi Boakye, is a testament to the police service’s commitment to the welfare of its members.
COP Seidu announced that a 100-bed hospital in Tamale will be commissioned soon, further expanding the police service’s healthcare infrastructure.
He applauded those who have worked tirelessly to support the vision, emphasizing that the police service is dedicated to providing quality healthcare services to its personnel and the community.
