The Ghana National Association of Small Scale Miners (GNASSM) has urged the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) to extend the two-week deadline for excavator registration.
The association believes the short timeframe may pose challenges for its members to comply.
GNASSM’s Ashanti District Secretary, Mr. Adu Gyamfi, expressed support for the DVLA’s initiative to regulate heavy-duty equipment and mitigate illegal mining and environmental destruction.
However, he noted that some members may need more time to gather necessary documents due to circumstances surrounding purchase and payment agreements.
Mr. Gyamfi commended the DVLA’s proactive approach and advised excavator owners to comply with the order, warning that failure to do so may result in adverse consequences.
The association’s plea aims to ensure its members have sufficient time to register their excavators and avoid penalties.
