Akyem Kotoku state chiefs, led by Akwansra Hene Nana Kwame Akomeah I, have expressed displeasure over the Ghana Minerals Commission’s dealings in their state.
They claim the commission has been granting concessions without consulting the traditional authority, which they believe is a disregard for their rights as landowners.
The chiefs are particularly concerned about licenses issued on January 3, 2025, which they suspect were done without transparency.
They’ve also raised concerns about Newmont’s operations, stating that the company is trying to disrespect the overlord of Akyem Kotoku state.
The chiefs demand that the government ensures transparency in granting mining concessions and respects the traditional authority’s role.
