Dormaa Ahenkro: Drivers oppose 15% transport fares reduction

Some drivers in Dormaa Ahenkro are opposing the proposed 15% reduction in transport fares, scheduled to commence on Saturday, May 24, 2025.
They argue the prices of spare parts remain unchanged, and there has been no decrease in gas prices, highlighting that the majority of their vehicles operate on gas rather than petrol or diesel.
Speaking to this reporter the Taxi drivers at the Dormaa Ahenkro Main Station acknowledged the government’s efforts to bolster the appreciation of the Ghana cedi against the dollar.
However, they maintained that transport fares should remain unchanged, given the persistent costs of spare parts and other essential items required for vehicle operation.
Meanwhile, Mr. Osei Hwedie, the Budget Analyst for Dormaa Central Municipal, has implored residents in and around Dormaa to adhere strictly to the assembly’s sanctioned transport fares, as the 15% reduction in lorry fares comes into effect on Saturday, 24th May 2025.
Following extensive discussions with stakeholders in the transport sector at the Dormaa Central Municipal Assembly, the Budget Analyst resolved to establish transport fares that incorporate the 15% reduction, aiming to alleviate hardship and ensure that Ghanaians benefit from the new lorry fare adjustment.
He seized the opportunity to implore all drivers to comply with the directives, ensuring that the new transport fares are implemented. He asserted that this measure would alleviate the nation’s hardships and improve the quality of life.
