Pentecostal Leader Urges President Mahama to Investigate Chief Justice Petition

By Isaac Okyere

Elder Enoch Ofori, leader of the 7th Day Pentecostal Assembly’s Esreso Branch in Ghana’s Ashanti Region, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to conduct a thorough investigation into the petition seeking the removal of the Chief Justice.

This according to him, will ensure transparency in the overall process.

Speaking in an interview with Isaac Okyere in Kumasi, Elder Ofori emphasized that an inductive investigation would help prevent future precedents that could undermine the country’s supreme laws.

The Office of the President has received two fresh petitions demanding the removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo, escalating tensions surrounding the judiciary.

The President’s move, taken in consultation with the Council of State and in accordance with Article 146(6) of the Constitution, has sparked intense national debate.

Discussions center on judicial independence and concerns over the potential politicization of constitutional processes, raising questions about the future of Ghana’s legal framework.

According to Elder Ofori, such an investigation would strengthen democracy and the rule of law in Ghana.

He stressed the importance of enforcing the separation of powers among the arms of government to ensure effective governance. “This would aid in the effective running of the nation,” he said.

Elder Ofori’s plea highlights the need for transparency and accountability in the country’s judicial processes.

By conducting a thorough investigation, President Mahama can help uphold the integrity of Ghana’s legal system and ensure that justice is served.

The call is seen as a bid to promote good governance and uphold the principles of democracy in the country.
