NPP Slams President Mahama’s 120-Day Performance As “Gravely Off Track

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has strongly criticized President John Mahama’s administration for failing to deliver on its promised 120-day social contract.

According to the NPP, President Mahama has not met the targets set out, particularly in reducing import duties and scrapping the COVID-19 levy.

Speaking at the NPP’s press conference, “120 Bitter Days of John Dramani Mahama,” held at the party headquarters in Accra, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo Markin stated that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had made lofty promises ahead of the elections, but very little had been achieved.

“He is not on track at all. From what he said he would do in 120 days, and what he has done so far, it is minimal compared to what is outstanding. So he is off track, gravely off track.

The promised state of emergency has vanished, replaced by silence and inaction while the sector Minister sheds crocodile tears on national television about our sorry state of our rivers, forest, and farmland.”

Afenyo Markin also expressed disappointment in President Mahama’s inaction on illegal mining, which he described as a betrayal.

The minority leader noted that while in opposition, the NDC had loudly declared that if elected, they would impose a state of emergency to confront galamsey head-on.

However, 120 days into the government, not only have they failed to do so, but they have also abandoned the agency they once championed.

Illegal mining, Afenyo Markin said, continues to devastate rivers, poison land, and displace entire communities.

He criticized the Minister’s response as mere crocodile tears on national television, rather than taking concrete actions to address the issue.
