GHANA POLICE RESCUE TWO GHANAIAN WOMEN KIDNAPPED IN NIGERIA

The Ghana Police Service and the Nigeria Police Force, with support from the National Signal Bureau, have rescued two Ghanaian women, Anastasia Baido and Evelyn Serwaa Konadu kidnapped in Nigeria.

 

At a press briefing,director general of the criminal investigations department(CID) DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor alluded that 8 people have so far been arrested in connection with the case of which 5 of the suspects were arrested in Ghana and the 3 arrest was made in Nigeria.

 

She hinted that on 25th April 2025,the missing persons unit of the Ghana police service received a complaint from a relative of Anastasia Baidu that on 22nd April 2025 that the family members travelled to Hohoe for medical checkup but did not return.

 

She added added that on 24th April 2025,they(Police received a video of the victim with a message indicating that she had been kidnapped to Nigeria, and the kidnappers were demanding a ransom of 500,000 Ghana Cedis.

 

According to her,an investigation was immediately commenced following the receipt of the first complaint of which led the rescue and the arrest.

 

DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor opined that steps have been taken to receive the victims from the Nigeria Police Force for the Ghana Police Service to be able to hand them over to their various families.
