Former presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has dismissed claims that his religious background was a factor in the party’s loss in the 2024 elections.
Speaking during the launch of NPP’s nationwide thank you tour, he says various studies and research conducted by different institutions showed that the party’s performance wasn’t affected by his Islamic faith.
Dr. Bawumia cited data showing that the NPP’s presidential candidate performed better than the Christian parliamentary candidate in many constituencies, contradicting the notion that voters were swayed by religious considerations.
He emphasized that meaningful conclusions can only be drawn from data-driven analysis, rather than speculation.
The former Vice President attributed the NPP’s loss to a significant drop in voter turnout, with approximately 2.1 million supporters not casting their ballots and President Mahama’s votes increased.
