Fire-Ravaged School Forces Pupils to Study Under Trees

Pupils of Dormaa Akwamu Methodist Primary and Kindergarten are bearing the brunt of a devastating fire that razed their school building on December 27, 2024.
With no alternative, they are now forced to conduct their studies under trees.
According to the Headteacher, Mr. Datus Kwadwo Manu, the fire’s cause remains under investigation by the Ghana National Fire Service.
Despite notifications to local chiefs, the Dormaa East District Director of Education, and other stakeholders, no assistance has been forthcoming.
The situation has necessitated an urgent appeal from the Headteacher to the government, philanthropists, and other stakeholders to support the reconstruction of the affected school building.
The current arrangement, he emphasized, detracts from the learners’ concentration due to the presence of reptiles and other animals in the compound.
All educational materials, including textbooks and furniture, were consumed by the flames, severely impacting teaching and learning.
The situation is further complicated by the unfinished state of the Junior High School block, initiated by the previous NPP administration.
Honorable Samuel Kwadwo Sabi, Assembly Member for the Dormaa Akwamu electoral area, has pledged to collaborate with stakeholders to resolve outstanding debts with the contractor, ensuring the completion of the project.
Efforts are also underway to construct a wooden structure to accommodate the primary and kindergarten pupils.
The community’s plight has sparked concerns about the need for urgent intervention to ensure the uninterrupted education of the affected pupils.
