Students and Farmers in Twifo Domeabra Risk Lives Crossing River Pra

Appeal for Government Intervention

A dire situation is unfolding in Twifo Domeabra, where students and farmers are risking their lives daily to cross the River Pra.

The community, located in the Twifo Atti Morkwa district of Ghana’s central region, is calling on the government and NGOs for urgent support.

The perilous journey to school and farms has already claimed one life. Last year, a student tragically drowned when the canoe she was in capsized.

The lack of life jackets and safety measures has created a culture of fear among the residents.

Farmers in the area are also struggling to transport their goods, including cassava, plantains, and dried cocoa, to the market. The rainy season exacerbates the challenges, leaving farm produce to rot.

Despite reporting their concerns to the Twifo Atti Morkwa District Assembly, the community has not received a satisfactory response.

The students and farmers are now appealing to the government and NGOs to provide life jackets and establish safety protocols to prevent further tragedies.

The community’s plea highlights the need for collaborative efforts between governments, NGOs, and local communities to address pressing development challenges.

By working together, these stakeholders can leverage their unique strengths and resources to drive positive change and improve the lives of vulnerable populations.
