Dormaa Central Municipal Fire Command Lifts Ban on Bush Burning and Hunting

The Dormaa Central Municipal command of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has lifted the ban on bush burning and hunting, effective March 24, 2025. The ban was initially imposed on January 8, 2025, due to concerns over fire outbreaks.

According to S.O I Mr. Samuel Agyei, in charge of rural fires, the recent persistent rainfall in the area warranted the revocation of the ban. This decision allows farmers to burn their farmlands to facilitate the cultivation of their agricultural inputs.

However, Agyei emphasized that all individuals utilizing fire must exercise caution to prevent accidental fires. He warned that negligence will incur penalties. Hunters and vendors of bushmeat are now permitted to pursue their activities without fear of harassment.

To ensure safe and controlled burning, fire volunteers have been empowered to assist farmers. Agyei stressed that no farmer should undertake bush burning alone and recommended establishing fire belts prior to any burning.

This development is expected to support the agricultural sector in the Dormaa Central Municipal area, which is part of the Bono Region.
