President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the government will pay teacher and nursing trainee allowances through the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD).
This move aims to address the long-standing concerns over delayed payments, ensuring that students receive their allowances regularly, just like government personnel receive their salaries.
President Mahama made this announcement during a durbar at Tamale’s Jubilee Park, as part of his “Thank You Tour” of the Northern Region.
He expressed his gratitude to the region’s people for their overwhelming support in the December Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
In addition to the allowance announcement, President Mahama reiterated the government’s commitment to providing free sanitary pads to girls in schools, ensuring they stay in school during their menstrual periods.
He also promised to complete the Eastern Corridor Road and other projects to improve the country’s transport system.
During his visit, President Mahama paid a courtesy call to Ya-Na Abukari II, Overlord of Dagbon, at the Gbewaa Palace. The Northern Regional Minister, Mr. Ali Adolf John, urged the President to consider establishing a military camp in Yendi to address recurring crises along the Eastern Corridor.
