Government urged to Halt all Mining Activities

Renowned farmer and CEO of Kumah Farms and Training Centre, Nana Kwaku Siaw, has made a passionate appeal to the government of Ghana to temporarily suspend all mining activities for approximately one year.

This, he believes, is necessary for the country to reclaim its depleted resources and prevent catastrophic environmental consequences.

Nana Siaw, also the Nkosuohene of Anwonmaso Traditional Area, emphasized that illegal mining, particularly galamsey, is wreaking havoc on Ghana’s water bodies, land, and cocoa farms. He pointed out that foreigners are significant contributors to this environmental degradation.

To combat this issue, Nana Siaw suggested that the government should discontinue sending personnel to supervise mining sites, as they often succumb to bribery and fail to enforce regulations.

Instead, he proposed deploying helicopters with military personnel to monitor and deter illegal mining activities, ensuring accurate records and minimizing corruption.

By implementing these measures, Nana Siaw is confident that Ghana can reclaim its water bodies and lands, mitigating the devastating effects of galamsey.

His appeal echoes the concerns of many Ghanaians who are worried about the environmental and economic impacts of unregulated mining activities.
